Everyone that has been to one of the annual meetings in the last few years has heard my mini-speech on not flushing anything that is not specifically labeled “flushable” into the sewer system. This picture, posted by Carterville earlier today, demonstrates the problems they (baby wipes in this case) can cause. Fortunately this isn’t on the sewer system we are responsible for, but we have lost pumps (at a $3,000-$5,000 rebuild cost) to things like diapers and towels before. Keeping things that don’t belong out of the sewer (including baby wipes and paper towels) help keep the costs down for everyone in the neighborhood.
